Our House was part of the launch event for a month of celebration, workshops and farewells for the Queen Street Studio team. They have spent the last 4 years transforming the old Frasers Property owned warehouses in Chippendale into a vibrant hub of creativity for artists from all walk of life. So, in true creative spirit, June 1 – 30 is the last hurrah for the space before is becomes part of the massive Chippendale development that we all drive past and gawk at.
Our House featured works from the last round of artist residencies at the space. Their work lined the walls and stood as reminders of the opportunities the space has provided. Unsurprisingly, after 4 years, Fraser Studios has touched a lot of artists’ lives and so was jam-packed. We couldn’t actually get many shots of the work, but perhaps capturing the folk who inhabited the space it just as important.
In addition to the exhibition there were a series of speeches from Queen Street Studios folk. They launched a publication documenting their 1,386 days in the Fraser Studios space. Sydney Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, also kindly spoke to the masses, acknowledging what an unusual and wonderful collaboration Fraser Studios had become.
The final days of Fraser Studios are still counting down. There are plenty of events to get involved with. Head to the Queen Street Studios page and check out the program!
