Second Life – Scott Marsh @ The Tate

Scott Marsh’s Second Life was an ambitious show. Paintings, prints, sculpture, installation and video works filled the TATE and transported (pun intended) visitors into the world of graffiti and street art. Marsh’s show was a self confessed nostalgic trip and an affectionate nod to the grey and rattling CityRail carriages and the kids who give them so colour.

The works were filled with the expected colour and excitement of graffiti, but with more considered and calculated composition. They were a perfect example of the artist acknowledging where he came from and showing where he’s going.  His series of paintings of CityRail carriages radiated characters and were a stand out. We wanted one, but they were completely sold out when we arrived.

As always with shows at the TATE, you blink and you’ve missed it. But we were there, so here are some photos for you…
