Maybe it doesn’t surprise you that an exhibition titled “Playing the Game” focuses on sport. For some strange reason, it surprised us. Joe Wilson’s new exhibition at Soldiers Rd takes a look at the Australian cultural iconography of sport.
Wilson’s minimalist and sometimes completely abstract paintings use familiar forms and colours to create fine art from images we would normally associate with advertising and press.
We arrived a little late and the crowd thinning. All the better to snap pics! It was a great atmosphere on level 4. Punters were milling about in the gallery and through the balcony walkways. Having visited Soldiers Rd last time in the pouring rain it was a nice change to see the space on a crispy clear night – summer season here we come.
“Playing the Game” runs until Sunday 16 September 2012 (weekends only).
We’ll be having some casual drinks with acoustic music on the last day for the exhibition this sunday 12-5pm at Soldiers rd. Suite 405, 342 Elizabeth St. Surry hills
