The Annual Google Exhibition was born at Hardware Gallery. As you may and well should be aware, Hardware Gallery went mobile in 2012. It’s a nice surprise to see that the Google Exhibition is back for 2012, also mobile, at its pop-up home in the foyer of the Seymore Centre.
The Google Exhibition is part of this year’s Sydney Fringe Festival. Celebrating the city’s emerging art scene. The premise of the Google Exhibition is for each participating artist to google the same phrase at the same time on the same day and come up with an artwork inspired by a web page in the search results. This year’s phrase was “distorted reproduction”. Intriguing.
The collection of works was diverse and curious. It was like playing detective to spot the unifying themes through the artworks in all their varying forms.
