Carla Fletcher – Premonition @ Friends of Leon

Carla Fletcher – Premonition @ Friends of Leon

It’s the end of spring and yet somehow we find ourselves trecking around in the rain for the love of art. It’s an abusive relationship, masochistic maybe, but we can’t stop. We especially can’t stop when Friends of Leon has it’s doors open for a showcase of works from 2010 Archibald Prize finalist Carla Fletcher. Her fluorescent, hypnotic works were beckoning.

In this exhibition, “Premonition”, Fletcher uses images of living animals, skulls and flowers to explore instinctive behaviors and reactions that are universal across the animal world, including in ourselves. Whether or not you like to read into the theory behind an artwork, this collection is instantly captivating. The composition, layering and technical skill in each panel  not only make them individually beautiful, but creates a cohesive and complete body of work.

This exhibition runs until 4 December.
