Last week we hit Global Gallery for their annual Gala Auction to raise funds for Mission Australia. The list of artists going under the hammer was pretty awesome, including works from Shepard Fairey, Anthony Lister, Banksy, Ghostpatrol, Anthony Bartok, Sidney Nolan, Sally Morgan and a bunch more (check out the catalogue at the Lawsons Auctioneers website).
With such an incredible mix of genres there was something for everyone. It was refreshing to see so many emerging artists hung alongside some of our country’s most successful names. We arrived an hour before bidding and wondered where all the people were. We didn’t wonder long – it was packed by the time the auction started. With hundreds of works covering the walls from floor to ceiling it was obvious that this was going to be a marathon.
When this event rolls around next year we suggest that you get yourselves there to snap up a bargain or just enjoy the visual overload. Actually, we’d be happy with less bidding competition, so don’t tell too many of your friends…
